Ballybryan National School.

April 25 2018

Congratulations to all our 6 class pupils for their part in what was a very enjoyable ceremony of Confirmation. Special word of thanks to Ms. Shanahan and Ms. Hannon for their excellent work with the choir. Thanks to all parents and family members for assisting us with preparations over the year.

First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion ceremony will take place in St. Peter’s Church, Rhode, on Saturday May 12 at 11am.

Teaching of Maths
A new directive from the Department of Education will impact on the teaching of Maths in our school. Over many years, including when our school received a WSE, class groups were taken on their own, reducing the teacher/pupil ratio. This was met with widespread approval during the WSE and was a huge success in the school, as indicated by Standardised Testing each year. The new directive however, will mean classes cannot be split. Parent teacher meetings etc. will be arranged accordingly. If there are any queries, please feel free to contact the school

Swimming for all children from infants to 1 class will take place over 3 weeks on the below dates

  • Tuesday May 22
  • Tuesday may 29 and
  • Thursday June 7

Swimming is a mandatory strand of the PE Curriculum. A list of items needed by each pupil on the day, will be sent home before commencing.

Junior Infants Induction Day
Junior infants, starting this coming September are invited in for their induction Day on Wednesday 23 of May from 9:20am-12pm. A meet and greet between the Principal, Class Teacher and Parents will take place in the school hall at 8pm on that same night.

Bake Sale
A huge word of thanks to our Parent’s Association for organising our recent Bake Sale which was a great success. Thanks very much to all people who supported the fundraiser by baking or buying on the day. A total of €702.00 was raised for the school.

Green Flag
Last week, the School was awarded its 8 Green Flag for its work on the theme of “Global Citizenship”. All classes carried out excellent work for our application. Thanks to all the staff for facilitating this, particularly, Ms. Darby, our Green School’s Co-ordinator and our Green School’s Committee members Noah, Jamie, Tara, Evie and Bethaney.

Ballybryan Clean Up
Huge thanks to everyone who helped with the recent clean-up of the school and surrounding areas.

Garda Vetting
From September, the school will require all adults who bring children to school related activities such as games, choir practice in the church etc. to be Garda vetted. We do not wish to be relying on a small few for each activity and so anyone willing to get Garda vetting is free to contact us in the school. Many thanks

Fitness Month
With the improving weather and upcoming sports competitions, we hope to run fitness related activities in the school throughout the month of May. Each teacher will relay their plans to their class group as these will differ. Pupils are requested to have an old pair of runners and a change of socks with them in school incase needed. More details to follow:
